Patio Pointing
Restore the joints in your patio or driveway with our professional repointing service — protecting your surface from weed growth, water ingress, and long-term structural damage across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside.
The Finishing Touch That Protects Your Investment
The joints between your patio slabs or driveway blocks do far more than fill a gap — they hold the surface together, prevent water from getting underneath, and stop weeds from taking root. Over time, mortar and jointing compound breaks down, washes out, and crumbles, leaving your patio vulnerable to movement, cracking, and persistent weed growth. Our professional repointing service removes all the old, failed material and replaces it with a fresh, durable compound that restores both the appearance and the structural integrity of your surface.
We work with all jointing systems — traditional sand and cement mortar, polymeric jointing sand, and resin-based compounds — selecting the right product for your surface type and usage. Whether your patio is a few years old or decades old, repointing is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend its life and keep it looking its best. We cover residential and commercial properties across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside.
What We Offer
Types of Patio Pointing
Mortar Repointing
Traditional sand and cement mortar is the most common jointing material for older patios and driveways. Over time it cracks, crumbles, and washes away — leaving open joints that allow water ingress and weed growth. We rake out all the failed mortar to a consistent depth, clean the joints thoroughly, and apply fresh mortar to restore a solid, weatherproof finish.
Polymeric Jointing Sand
Polymeric jointing sand is a modern, flexible alternative to traditional mortar — ideal for block paving and contemporary patio surfaces. It binds together when activated with water, creating a firm, weed-resistant joint that flexes slightly with ground movement rather than cracking. We brush the compound into the joints, compact it, and activate it with a controlled water application for a clean, long-lasting result.
Resin Jointing Compound
Resin-based jointing compounds offer the highest level of durability and weed resistance available. Once cured, they form an extremely hard, permeable joint that resists frost, UV degradation, and heavy foot traffic. They are particularly well suited to natural stone and porcelain patios where a premium, long-lasting finish is required. We prepare the joints carefully before application to ensure full adhesion and a consistent result.
Block Paving Repointing
Block paving is especially prone to joint failure — the constant movement of individual blocks under foot and vehicle traffic gradually loosens the jointing sand, allowing weeds to establish and the surface to become unstable. We remove all failed jointing material, re-level any sunken or raised blocks where needed, and refill the joints with a suitable compound to restore a firm, even surface.
Natural Stone Repointing
Natural stone patios — including sandstone, limestone, and slate — require careful joint preparation and the right compound to avoid staining or damaging the stone surface. We use stone-compatible jointing materials and take care to keep the compound within the joint rather than smearing across the face of the stone. The result is a clean, professional finish that complements the natural character of the material.
Weed & Root Removal
Before any repointing work begins, we remove all existing weed growth from the joints — including roots — and treat the area with a weed killer to prevent rapid regrowth. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons repointing fails prematurely. By treating the root cause as well as filling the joint, we give the new compound the best possible chance of lasting for years rather than months.
How We Work
Our Repointing Process
Thorough preparation is the key to a long-lasting result
Survey & Assessment
We assess the surface type, joint condition, and extent of failure to select the right jointing compound and method for your patio.
Weed & Root Removal
All weed growth is removed from the joints and treated with weed killer to prevent regrowth before the new compound is applied.
Joint Raking & Cleaning
Failed mortar or jointing sand is raked out to a consistent depth and the joints are cleaned thoroughly to ensure full adhesion of the new compound.
Compound Application
We apply the chosen jointing compound — mortar, polymeric sand, or resin — carefully into the joints, ensuring full coverage and a consistent finish.
Finishing & Clean Up
Excess compound is removed from the surface, joints are finished neatly, and the area is left clean and ready to use once the compound has cured.
